Distance from the glass matters as much as direction.   • Faded, washed-out colour. The deep green and silver-white venation of types like Alocasia ‘Polly’ and ‘Frydek’ dulls to a yellow-green as excess light degrades chlorophyll.
  • Curling leaves and crisp brown edges. The blade curls inward to reduce exposed surface, and the margins go dry and brittle — intense light plus the low humidity of a hot sunny window.
  • Soil drying out alarmingly fast. Strong sun drives up water demand, so a pot that held moisture for a week empties in two or three days — and the plant wilts between waterings.

Then there is dormancy. Alocasia is one of the few popular houseplants that genuinely goes semi-dormant in winter. As day length shortens and temperatures fall, growth stops and the plant may drop several leaves — sometimes all of them — while the underground corm rests[9].
