The process:

The process:

- 2Plant plantlet in small pot with well-draining potting mix, root nubs 1/2 inch below soil surface.
- 3Water lightly to settle soil.

Which is best for your situation?
Attached rooting is ideal when: you can position a pot near the parent, you have time to wait 3–4 weeks, you want the highest success rate.

Direct-to-soil is ideal when: you want the simplest process, you have well-established plantlets with visible aerial roots, you don’t need to see progress.

06 · TROUBLESHOOTING
Common failures
Plantlet wilts after separation from parent: Normal for 1–3 days. Keep in bright indirect light, ensure roots stay moist. Recovery within a week.
No root growth after 3 weeks in water: Plantlet may have been too young when separated. Check for any root nubs; if absent, the plantlet wasn’t mature enough. Wait longer next time before separating.
Roots forming in water but plantlet dying after transfer to soil: Water roots are structurally different and don’t always adapt. Keep soil consistently moist for 2–3 weeks after transfer. Consider attached rooting next time for more robust roots.
